Kayak Aqueduct Cruise

A trip to North Wales is not complete without visiting the UNESCO Pontcysllte Aqueduct, and what better way to experience it than travelling over it in a kayak?!

Guided by a qualified and experience TNR instructor, you will learn the basics of kayaking whilst experience some of the most beautiful sights Llangollen has to offer.

What to Expect

After meeting your instructor at the canal, we will begin with a quick safety brief, then get you into your kayak!

From here, your instructor will teach you the basics to paddle your kayak in a straight line, how to turn and make sure you’re comfortable before you head towards the aqueduct!

Part of the UNESCO world heritage site, it is 38.4m (126ft) high over the river dee, and 306.9m (10007ft) long. We think there is no better no better way to experience it than by kayak.

Each trip is led by our qualified instructors who will be on hand to help and answer any questions you might have along the way.

This session is run entirely on our site. We own the riverbanks for a 300-metre stretch and can re-paddle rapids if we like.

Occasionally due to high river levels we may run this session elsewhere, you will be informed of everything by your instructor.

The session is 90 minutes long which accounts for time getting changed, kitted up and safety briefings. It normally equates to about an hour on the river.

We will provide your kayaks, paddles & buoyancy aids.

Clothes appropriate to the weather conditions (warm/waterproof clothes or sunhat – Maybe both, this is Wales after all)
A spare change of clothes—just in case!
Sturdy footwear (that won’t fall off your feet)
Suncream
Water

All of our instructors are highly experienced and have been trained and assessed to national governing body standards. They will always have your enjoyment and safety as their top priority.

You do not need any previous experience for this session.

This is suitable for anyone aged 8 or over. All children must be accompanied by an adult, we can organise sessions for groups of children but it helps to know in advance so we can make special provisions.

All of our equipment is chosen to be fit for purpose and is safety checked. You may bring your own equipment with you but using it will be at the instructor’s discretion.

We run this session to a ratio of 1:10 so there may be other people in your group. Our canoes seat 2 or three people. You will not be made to share a canoe with anyone you don’t know.

If you would like a private session, this can be booked here:

It is not the aim of the session to capsize, particularly on the canal where the water is so calm but it may happen – you will be given instructions on what to do if this does happen and your instructor will rescue your boat and help you back in.

Not at all, your buoyancy aid has more than enough floatation and our instructors will help at all times.

We sell waterproof phone cases which are suitable to keep your phone safe and dry. Your instructor may take some photos if they have the opportunity.

Here’s what one adventurer said

“My 10yr old daughter & I did the 90mins white water kayaking with Alex. My daughter started as a complete beginner & ended going down a rapid unaided. I had complete confidence in Alex keeping my daughter safe. He taught her valuable life skills whilst having fun. An experience we will never forget & one we will be repeating next year. Thank you TNR!”
